The People’s Party joined forces with Queers4Oliver to kick off Pride month at Re-bar with mayoral candidate Nikkita Oliver. Oliver posed for photos with the gathering crowd, gave a shout out to her days as a slam poet on the Re-bar stage, and offered a rousing speech that touched on some of her primary campaign points, including gentrification, trans rights, affordable housing, livable wages, and education. Especially poignant, given the nature of the crowd, was the effort Oliver made to highlight the importance of Washington Won’t Discriminate’s No on I-1552 campaign, along with the need to center the most vulnerable members of the queer community.

“As long as injustice exists anywhere,” said Oliver, “injustice exists everywhere.”
